SCREEN BANDITA AND RYAN VAN WINKLE PRESENT

ADRIFT IN THE ARCHIVE

LONDON OCT 2013

EDINBURGH FEB 2014

The Banditas are delighted to once again be packing their suitcases, projectors, slides and old photographs and heading to London to embark upon an archival adventure!

Building upon the collaborative work begun with poet Ryan Van Winkle for the Edinburgh International Film Festival commission, we will be decamping to South-West London to the fabulous Battersea Arts Centre for a time of exploration in their extensive archive, charting the building's 120 year history.

We will be sifting through the papers, documents, visual records and artefacts in order to uncover the personalities and projects that contributed to and shaped the space's radical backstory; historically a focal point in the trade union and women's suffrage movements, and in recent decades a veritable breeding ground for cutting-edge cultural activity.

Drawing upon these stories and narratives, and calling upon the experiences and memories of the local community, the Banditas and Van Winkle will begin to stitch together a new piece of audio/visual work, rooted in and incorporating oral and written testaments, recollections and personal responses to the the building and its various manifestations.
